Rain in the Forecast? Fun’s Still Guaranteed at Kentucky Kingdom

July 31, 2025

Some call it a rainy day. We call it extra splashy. When clouds roll in, Kentucky Kingdom turns up the fun. Sure, it might be drizzling, but that doesn’t always stop the coasters from racing, the slides from splashing, or the laughs from echoing through the park. In fact, a little rain might just be the secret ingredient to your best day ever.

Water Rides Don’t Care About the Weather, and Neither Should You

Let’s be honest, you’re already planning to get soaked in Hurricane Bay. From Deep Water Dive to the Forbidden Passage, rain doesn’t always change things. You’ll be splashing in the Adventure River and screaming through Conquistador Canyon through the rain. It’s all part of the adventure.

Even at Kentucky Kingdom, a coaster like Woodland Run can run rain or shine (as long as there’s no lightning). On drizzly days, those wait times are almost non-existent. You’ll fly through your favorite attractions with time to spare for another round.

And Discovery Meadow? The whimsical new land is just as enchanting under an umbrella. Kids can hop on fourteen family rides or explore the 4,800-square-foot playground with plenty of shaded seating for grown-ups nearby.

Rainy Days Feel Like Bonus Water Park Time

Cooler temps and fewer crowds make rainy days ideal for water park fun. Family Wave Lagoon, Castaway Creek, and even the Wave Pools are less busy, giving you more room to float, swim, and play. Bring a waterproof bag for your belongings, wear water-friendly shoes, and make it your mission to get wetter than the weather.

When you need a cozy break, swing by Casa Mia's for flatbread pizza or even a cheeseburger, then top it off with a funnel cake from Auntie B’s or a scoop of ice cream from Clock Tower Treats. Warm, dry, and delicious.

The Sunshine Pass Has You Covered

At Kentucky Kingdom, a little rain doesn’t stop the fun. However, when the weather really takes a turn, the park has you covered. If persistent bad weather causes most rides to close during your visit, you may be eligible for a Sunshine Pass. This pass allows guests with a paid admission ticket to return to the park another day during the same season at no additional cost.

To claim your Sunshine Pass, visit Guest Services at the front entrance on the day of your visit or present your original scanned admission ticket on any other operating day this season. The Sunshine Guarantee is activated at the discretion of park management.

If the weather cuts your visit short, Kentucky Kingdom makes sure your investment in fun still counts.
