What Is Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom?

Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom is Louisville's family-friendly fall festival, and in 2026 it became the new home of the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular after more than a decade at Iroquois Park. The festival runs Wednesday through Sunday from October 1 through November 1, 2026, pairing the pumpkin trail with rides, trick-or-treating and live entertainment in one ticket.

This year's theme, Planet Pumpkin: A Glo-bal Adventure, fills the trail with hand-carved scenes of landmarks and cultural icons from around the world. For the full story behind the move, read Kentucky Kingdom's own account of the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular's new home.

"This partnership brings together two traditions that have become part of fall in Louisville," says Carly Uglow, Kentucky Kingdom's director of sales and marketing.

What Are Glow Nights at Kentucky Kingdom?

Glow Nights are what happens once the sun goes down at Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom: the park turns into a glowing, family-friendly wonderland, and the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular trail opens at dusk every festival night.

  • The trail: a quarter-mile walking path lined with more than 5,000 pumpkins hand-carved by local artists
  • The 60-foot light tunnel: in Discovery Meadow, and practically built for family photos.
  • Glowing sculptures: four larger-than-life icons, including the Pumpkinseeds bluegrass band, a 12-foot Derby Horse, a Giant Spider and a Glowing Cat.
  • Rides after dark: more than 30 rides keep running into the night, so the evening doesn't end when you finish the trail.
  • Family dance party: live music and entertainment to keep little ones moving between rides.

Because the trail opens at dusk, the best plan is to arrive a little early, ride a few favorites while it's still light, then walk the trail as it starts to glow.

What Makes Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom Family-Friendly?

Everything about Pumpkins was designed for families with kids of all ages, so the whole visit is built around things you can do together:

  • Trick-or-treating: trick-or-treat stations around the park hand out free candy from park opening until 8 p.m. each night, so kids can trick-or-treat in costume without leaving the festival. If you're looking for candy after 8 p.m., pick up a candy bag at Guest Services.
  • Hands-on fun: pumpkin-themed carnival games and meet-and-greets with Boo and Mummy and other colorful characters.
  • Rides for every age: more than 30 rides, so little ones and older kids can each find a favorite.
  • Easy with strollers: strollers are welcome on the trail, rentals are available, and pathways are paved, level and well lit.
  • Costume-friendly rules: family-friendly costumes are encouraged, masks are allowed only for children under 12, and weapons or anything that looks like one aren't permitted.
  • Built-in supervision: guests 15 and under need to be with a supervising adult age 21 or older.

Is Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom Scary for Young Kids?

No. Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom is a family-friendly festival, not a haunted house. Expect a glowing pumpkin trail, trick-or-treat stations, rides and characters instead of jump scares, which makes it a comfortable first Halloween outing for toddlers and a fun night out for older kids and grown-ups too.

What Is There to Eat at Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom?

Special fall-themed food and drinks are served throughout the festival. If your family likes to snack its way through the night, the Pumpkins Tasting Passport bundles four autumn treats and can save you up to $30. Details are on the Pumpkins Tasting Passport at Kentucky Kingdom page.

How Much Are Tickets to Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom?

Day tickets start at $24.99, and groups of 15 or more start at $18.99. Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom is free with a 2027 Diamond pass or any current 2026 season pass, and 2027 Gold passholders can buy a discounted ticket ($14.99 October 1 to 11, $19.99 October 14 to November 1) instead of paying full price. Tips for Planning Your Family's Night at Pumpkins

  • Go Wednesday or Thursday for shorter lines. Saturday runs longest, 2 to 10 p.m., and draws the biggest crowds.
  • Want daylight fun first? Saturday opens at 2 p.m., so younger kids can trick-or-treat and ride before the trail lights up at dusk.
  • Trick-or-treat before 8 p.m. Stations are open from park opening until 8 p.m. each night, and each one gives out a few pieces of candy, so think of it as a fun tradition along the way rather than a full haul. Kentucky Kingdom provides the trick-or-treat bags, so there's nothing to pack.
  • Wear the costume. Family-friendly costumes are encouraged, and they make the light tunnel photos even better.
  • Dress in layers. October evenings in Louisville cool off quickly once the sun is down.
  • Check Plan Your Visit for parking, hours and what to bring.

What Other Family-Friendly Halloween Events Are in Louisville This October?

If you're making a full Halloween weekend of it, a few local, family-friendly events can round out your plans. Here are three that are confirmed for the rest of October:

  • Gallrein Farms Fall Festival: pumpkin patch and hayrides in Shelbyville on weekends through October 31. Fall festival page.
  • Sojourn East Trunk or Treat: free, no registration, Sunday, October 25, 4 to 6 p.m. at 2501 Rudy Lane in Louisville. Event page.
  • Charlestown Trail & Treat: Friday, October 30, 5 to 7 p.m. at Greenway Park in Charlestown, Indiana, hosted by the City of Charlestown. No admission fee is listed. Event page.

Should You Buy a Kentucky Kingdom Season Pass Before Halloween?

It's worth a look, especially if your family will come back for Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom too. A 2027 Diamond season pass includes free admission to this year's Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom and Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom, on top of the entire 2027 season, and 2027 Gold passholders get a discounted Pumpkins ticket as well as free admission to Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom.

See pricing and what's included on the Kentucky Kingdom season pass page, or buy just a Pumpkins ticket on the event page. And once the pumpkins go dark, Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom covers what's next at the park.
