Jack O'Lantern Spectacular Has a New Home This Fall at Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom

August 10, 2026

There is something magical about Fall in Kentucky, and this year, Louisville's favorite theme park is leaning all the way into it. The Jack O'Lantern Spectacular, one of the region's most celebrated Fall traditions, has found a new home at Kentucky Kingdom, where it now glows as part of Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom.

It is the news that Fall fans have been waiting for. A beloved community tradition is joining the park's own family friendly festival, and together they light up Kentucky Kingdom with more than 6,000 glowing and hand-carved pumpkins in one unforgettable experience. Whether you are chasing thrills after dark, hunting for the perfect photo, or trick-or-treating with the little ones, here is what to expect this Fall.

A Beloved Tradition Finds a New Home

For years, families across Kentuckiana have made the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular a part of their Fall tradition. Now in its 14th year and produced by Passion for Pumpkins Inc., the event has found its new home at Kentucky Kingdom, where it takes its place at the heart of Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom.

What makes this such a special pairing is what surrounds the trail. Instead of a standalone stroll, the Spectacular is now woven into a full festival, complete with rides after dark, trick-or-treat stations, festival food, and live entertainment.

As Carly Uglow, Director of Sales and Marketing at Kentucky Kingdom, put it, "This partnership brings together two traditions that have become part of fall in Louisville." For your family, that means the carvings you love and the park you love, all on one ticket and all in one glowing night.

Meet the 2026 Theme: Planet Pumpkin, A Glo-bal Adventure

To celebrate its first season at Kentucky Kingdom, the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular is debuting its annual theme and this year’s is “Planet Pumpkin: A Glo-bal Adventure.” Grab your passport, because this year's illuminated trail is a glowing trip across the globe, with hand-carved pumpkins bringing world landmarks, traditions, and cultural icons to life along the way.

The theme is a heartfelt nod to where it all began. When the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular first debuted in Louisville in 2013, its very first theme, Journey Around the World, celebrated cultures and landmarks from across the globe. Now the event returns to that spirit at its new home. "Now that Jack O'Lantern Spectacular has found its home at Kentucky Kingdom, the Planet Pumpkin theme gives guests even more of a reason to visit the trail this fall," said Uglow. "Right inside the park, guests can travel the world in hand-carved pumpkins, then enjoy everything else Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom has to offer, all in one night."

When It Runs: 2026 Dates and Hours

Mark your calendar, because the festival has a limited run. Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom, now home to the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular, takes place on select evenings this fall.

  • The event runs Wednesdays through Sundays, from October 1 to November 1, 2026.

  • Season Passholders get an exclusive first look at the Passholder Preview Night on September 30, 2026, from 5 to 9 p.m.

  • Plan to arrive early and enjoy more than 30 rides in the daylight, then watch the park light up with more than 6,000 glowing pumpkins as the sun goes down. Two experiences, one ticket, one unforgettable evening.

Always confirm the day's operating hours on the park calendar before you head out, since Fall hours vary by day.

The Jack O'Lantern Spectacular Trail

The heart of the experience is the illuminated pumpkin trail. Produced by Passion for Pumpkins Inc., a multimedia production company with 25 years of experience transforming landscapes into illuminated organic galleries, the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular features more than 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins created by local artists and sculptors, each one lit up along a walking path that winds through the park.

These are not your average porch pumpkins. The carvings range from playful to jaw-dropping works of art, and they are shaped by the same team of local artists who have been putting on this show for years. "With Planet Pumpkin, we wanted to honor the theme that started it all when Jack O'Lantern Spectacular first came to Louisville," said Travis Reckner of Passion for Pumpkins. "It's carved by the same team of local artists who have been with us for years, and that's what makes this a show you won't find anywhere else." Take your time, bring your camera, and let the kids point out their favorites.

More Than 6,000 Glowing Pumpkins

Here is where the scale really shows. By combining the trail's more than 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins with the festival's own displays, the park now glows with more than 6,000 illuminated pumpkins in a single, immersive experience.

It is the kind of spectacle that feels made for the whole family, from grandparents to little ones, and it gives every visit that unmistakable Fall feeling from the moment you walk through the gate.

Glow Nights After Dark

Once the sun goes down, the park transforms into a whimsical wonderland of glow. Beyond the carved pumpkins, the festival is packed with larger-than-life light displays that are pure fall magic.

Look for these nighttime highlights:

  • A 60-foot light tunnel that is practically built for photos.

  • Four glowing, larger-than-life sculptures: The Pumpkinseeds bluegrass band, a 12-foot Derby Horse, a Giant Spider, and a Glowing Cat.

  • A family dance party with room for everyone to join in.

  • Illuminated pumpkin displays tucked around every corner, perfect for that fall family photo.

Daytime Family Fun and Trick-or-Treating

The fun does not wait for nightfall. Earlier in the evening, the festival is filled with family-friendly activities that make it a true fall outing for all ages.

Expect plenty to do together:

  • A trick-or-treat trail where kids can collect candy along the way.

  • Pumpkin-themed carnival games and a hay maze to explore.

  • Live entertainment and musical performances throughout the park.

  • Family costumes are encouraged, so dress up and make a day of it. For safety, masks are for children under 12 only.

Rides, Food, and Festival Treats

Here is what sets this Fall event apart from a typical pumpkin patch…the rides stay open. More than 30 attractions run after dark, so you can soar on a coaster under a sky full of glowing pumpkins, a combination you will not find anywhere else in the region.

When you need a break, festival-themed food and seasonal treats are all around. Foodies can sample their way across the festival, and there is plenty of themed merchandise to take a little of the magic home.

Passholder Preview Night and Season Pass Value

If you want to experience the magic before the crowds, the Passholder Preview Night on September 30, 2026 is the way to do it. It is a passholder-exclusive first look from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the full lineup of pumpkins, displays, rides, and Fall food before the event opens to the public.

And here is the real value. While tickets start at $19.99, a 2026 Season Pass includes free entry to the fall festival and the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular trail, plus:

  • Unlimited admission through the rest of the 2026 season, including every festival night and Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom.

  • Free parking, which saves you $15 on every single visit.

  • Discounts on food, retail, and photos, plus bring-a-friend tickets to share.

  • The exclusive Preview Night before the festival opens to everyone.
