Meet Scout the Squirrel: Discovery Meadow’s Playful NEW Character

Hiya, friends! 🐾 It’s me, Scout the Squirrel! You’ve probably seen me darting around Discovery Meadow with an acorn in my paw, a smile on my face, and a whole lot of excitement in my step. I may be small, but trust me, my days are packed with BIG fun, sweet treats, and surprises around every bend here at Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, KY.

So grab your nature notepad and follow along. I’m giving you the inside scoop on what it’s like to live, play, and snack my way through a perfect day at Discovery Meadow, the all-new land here at Kentucky Kingdom.

Morning: Garden Greetings & Woodland Games

My day starts with a sunrise stretch on top of Clock Tower Treats, where I get a squirrel’s-eye view of the entire garden village. The early morning air is crisp, the wildflowers are waking up, and the birds are already belting out Bluegrass tunes that make my fluffy tail twitch with joy.

By 10:00 AM, I’m scampering through the flower-lined paths to welcome families as they arrive. Some of my squirrelly friends even tag along to play hopscotch on stepping stones or chase each other through the trees at Happy Hollow, my very own nature-inspired playground.

Midday: Rides, Races, and Rolling Adventures

Once the sun is high, it’s time to ride! I’ve got a few favorites (don’t tell the others):

• Scout’s Squirrel Race – That’s MY ride! A twirly, bouncy romp where squirrels chase an enormous acorn to a plucky Bluegrass beat.
• Woodland Run – This coaster’s like a stampede of forest friends. Hold onto your whiskers, it's a wild ride through the trees!
• Garden Carousel – Sometimes I slow it down for a spin on a beautifully painted pony. It’s a lovely way to admire the gardens.

When I’m not riding, you’ll find me dashing into Bloom’s BBQ & Grill to check on the latest batch of grilled cheese (I may have a standing order) or popping by Clock Tower Treats. My favorite food is ice cream, and they have “Scout’s Sundae” as a specialty-themed item. What can I say? I like sweets.

Afternoon: All Aboard the Cumberland Express

As the afternoon breeze picks up, I scamper over to one of my favorite hideaways—the Cumberland Express! This charming little train winds through the garden like a storybook come to life, with leafy vines and all.

Hop aboard and chug along with me through the wilderness—you might hear the hoot of an owl, the rustle of a raccoon, or even spot a deer if you’re really quiet! It’s the perfect ride for families (and curious squirrels like me!) who love a slow, scenic adventure through nature’s backyard.

Don’t forget to wave if you see me perched on a branch along the way!

Evening: Sunset & Sweet Goodbyes

As the sun sets over the meadow, the lights twinkle on and the garden takes on a golden glow. I usually make one last round, waving goodbye to families, collecting extra popcorn near Clock Tower Treats, and, of course, checking that no acorns were left behind.

Before I curl up in my cozy tree hollow, I pause to watch the stars peek out. This place, my Discovery Meadow, is filled with laughter, love, and leaf-ruffling adventure. And I get to share it with you. That’s the best part of all.
