Where Can Your Family See a Pumpkin Trail in Louisville This Fall?

Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom is your answer. The original Jack O'Lantern Spectacular moved there this year after more than a decade at Iroquois Park, and it now anchors a fall festival running October 1 through November 1, Wednesday through Sunday, with more than 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins on the trail and over 6,000 across the park.

Hours vary by day: Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday from 5 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. The trail opens at dusk each night. The 2026 theme, Planet Pumpkin: A Glo-bal Adventure, carries hand-carved scenes from around the world past a 60-foot light tunnel and four glowing sculptures, with more than 30 rides open after dark.

Day tickets start at $24.99, and groups of 15 or more start at $18.99. It’s free with a 2027 Diamond pass or any current 2026 season pass, and 2027 Gold passholders can add a discounted ticket ($14.99 October 1 to 11, $19.99 October 14 to November 1) instead of paying full price. Season passholders got the first look at a September 30 preview night.

For the story behind the move, Kentucky Kingdom's own account of the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular's new home covers the trail, the theme and the pumpkin count in more depth. For this year's hours, tickets and festival details straight from the park, see the Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom event page.

What Other Family Halloween Events Are Happening in Louisville in October 2026?

Three other events are worth building a weekend around: Gallrein Farms' Fall Festival in Shelbyville, Sojourn East's free Trunk or Treat in Louisville, and the City of Charlestown's Trail & Treat just across the river in Southern Indiana. Here is Season Passeswhen each one runs and what to expect, confirmed with the host this month.

Gallrein Farms Fall Festival

Gallrein Farms in Shelbyville runs its fall festival weekends from September 19 through October 31, with weekday hours added in October. Expect a pumpkin patch, hayrides and a petting zoo. The farm sells tickets through its own site rather than posting a flat gate price, so check the Gallrein Farms fall page for this week's hours and current pricing before you go.

Sojourn East Trunk or Treat

Sojourn East's Trunk or Treat is a free community event on Sunday, October 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 2501 Rudy Lane in Louisville (40207). Sojourn East's Trunk or Treat page says it is completely free and no registration is needed, so your family can simply show up in costume with a bag.

Charlestown Trail & Treat

The City of Charlestown's Trail & Treat runs Friday, October 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Greenway Park (400 Market Street) in Charlestown, Indiana. The city's Parks Department hosts it with an Indiana University Southeast Fine Arts class, and Tank Entertainment offers a free 360-degree photo experience from 5 to 7 p.m. See the Trail & Treat page for parking details.

Which Halloween Events in Louisville Are Free?

Two of these events are free. Sojourn East's Trunk or Treat on October 25 is completely free with no registration, and the City of Charlestown's Trail & Treat on October 30 lists no admission fee. Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom is free with a 2027 Diamond pass or any current 2026 season pass, and free for children age 3 and under. Gallrein Farms sells tickets through its own site, so check its fall page for current pricing.

Is Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom Scary, and Which Events Work Best for Young Kids?

No. Kentucky Kingdom built Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom as a family festival, not a haunted house: costumes are welcome, but masks are allowed only for children under 12, and weapons or anything that looks like one aren't permitted. Expect a lit pumpkin trail, trick-or-treat stops and rides rather than scares.

"This partnership brings together two traditions that have become part of fall in Louisville," says Carly Uglow, Kentucky Kingdom's director of sales and marketing, on the Jack O'Lantern Spectacular's move to the park.

If your family wants more of a scare, Louisville has plenty of haunted houses and ghost tours in October, just not at these events. Check each attraction's own site for this year's dates and age guidance before you go.

Tips for Planning Your Family's Halloween Weekend in Louisville

  • Go Wednesday or Thursday at Kentucky Kingdom for shorter lines. Saturday runs longest, 2 to 10 p.m., and draws the biggest crowds.
Buy Kentucky Kingdom tickets online before you go. The gate price runs higher than the advance online price.
  • Dress in layers. October evenings in Louisville cool off fast once the sun is down and the trail lights come on.
  • Bring cash for smaller neighborhood and farm events. Not every station at Gallrein Farms or a pop-up event takes cards.
  • Pair an evening at Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom with a daytime visit to Gallrein Farms. Sojourn East's Trunk or Treat (October 25) and Charlestown's Trail & Treat (October 30) both run during Pumpkins hours, so plan each one as its own night.

Should You Buy a Kentucky Kingdom Season Pass Before Halloween?

It's worth comparing, especially if your family is likely to come back for Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom too. A 2027 Diamond season pass already includes free admission to this year's Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom and to Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom, on top of the entire 2027 season, and 2027 Gold passholders get a discounted Pumpkins ticket instead of paying full price.

See current pricing and what's included on the Kentucky Kingdom season pass page, or buy just a Pumpkins ticket without a pass through the event page. For everything else to expect once the park turns over to the holidays, Kentucky Kingdom's Christmas guide is a good next read, and Plan Your Visit covers parking, hours and what to bring for any trip to the park.
