Policies

Admission

Every person 3 years old and older must have a valid admission ticket or season pass to enter the park. Admission tickets and season passes can be purchased on our website and at the park. You may leave the park and return on the same day by having your hand stamped at the exit gate. Present your stamped hand and ticket or season pass to the gate attendant for re-entry. If you leave the parking lot, you will be required to pay the Kentucky Exposition Center’s parking fee to re-enter (unless you are a season pass holder – see parking policy for more details).

Please keep all tickets for proof of purchase. Tickets are non-refundable.

Consecutive two-day tickets must be shown on both visits.

If you are a season pass holder, you must present your season pass on every visit to enter the park. Season passes are non-transferable and non-refundable. Season passes are specific to the holder and may not be used by anyone other than the pass holder. Failure to follow these policies may result in revocation of the pass.

Please Note: Season passes and general admission tickets are not valid during park buyouts or select special events. See our operating days and times.

Guests with Special Needs and Accommodations

Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay offers a variety of accommodations and services for guests with special needs.  We recommend that you familiarize yourself with RIDER REQUIRMENTS and Guests with Disabilities guidelines before visiting the park.

Attraction Boarding Pass

  1. Guests who are unable to stand in line due to an Autism Spectrum Disorder or mobility restriction may request an Attraction Boarding Pass at Guest Services located at the front gate.  Boarding passes accommodate up to a party of four (4).
  2. Once you receive an Attraction Boarding Pass, you may take it to the exit of any accessible attraction.  Six (6) of our rides - Lightning Run, T3, Thunder Run, Cyclos, Strom Chaser and Eye of the Storm - require an assigned ride time .  Guest Services will assign the first ride time if desired.  Ride times for these attractions may also be assigned by the ride operator at any of the six (6) designated rides.  Only one (1) ride time is assigned at a time.
  3. Once at the exit, hold up your boarding pass and wait for the ride operator to instruct you how to load the ride.
  4. Do not enter the ride area until instructed to do so.

Please Note: Wheelchair users are not required to obtain an attraction boarding pass, but may do so if they wish.  You may enter via the exit of any ride designated as accessible (ADD SYMBOL) or transferable (ADD SYMBOL). Review our Rider Guidelines for specific ride information.  The ride operator will accommodate up to a party of four (4).  Do not enter the ride area until instructed to do so.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay welcomes all guests.  Team members are available at Guest Services to answer any specific questions you may have.  When planning your visit to the park, please be aware of the following sensory stimuli:

1. Loud noises such as music, crowd noise and ride sounds.

2. Lights of a variety of colors and brightness.

3. Movement of crowds and attractions.

4. Large crowds congregating in queue lines and midways.

Please Note: If you need to take a moment in a quiet resting space, the Health Services building near Bella Musica Carousel has a quiet room available for up to two members of your party during the operating day. We ask that you limit your visit to 30 minutes to help accommodate other guests who may also want to use this facility.  Reference park map for location.

Dining Accessibility

All dining areas, indoor and outdoor, are accessible for all guests.  Reference park map for available dining options.  

Guests with Food Allergies

We offer a variety of foods and snacks for purchase throughout the park. Reference menus and nutritional guide for your convenience.  If you or a member of your party has special dietary needs that require you to bring specific food items into the park, notify a Public Safety Officer at the front gate. 

Gender Neutral Accommodations

Restrooms, showers and changing rooms are available for all guests.  Guests who prefer to use a gender neutral or family restroom may use individual restrooms located near the picnic pavilions, Health Services behind Big Surf wave pool or Health Services near Bella Musica Carousel. Gender neutral/family shower areas are available near the Family Wave Lagoon and at the lighthouse located near Big Surf.  Gender neutral/family changing rooms are located near Big Surf beach.

Medical Equipment on Rides

Casts and Braces - You should not ride our attractions if you have a neck, back or bone condition.  Guests with a cast or brace will not be allowed to ride if the cast or brace does not fit properly in the ride vehicle, presents a hazard to other guests, or will not allow proper rider posture.

Prosthetic Devices - Guests with a prosthesis of any kind must ensure the device is properly worn, secured and will remain in place during the attraction cycle.  The prosthesis must fit so that it does not become dislodged or stuck in any area of the ride or vehicle.  Please reference the RIDER GUIDLINES for information regarding prosthetics permitted on specific attractions. 

Glasses should be secured with a sports strap while riding.

Bag Check

  1. bags (purses, backpacks, beach bags) and carriers (strollers, wheelchairs, wagons) will be searched for prohibited items upon entering the park. The following items are prohibited:
  • Weapons such as knives or guns.
  • Outside food or drink.
  • Any glass container.
  • Alcohol.
  • Drugs or other illegal substances.
  • Coolers or picnic baskets.
  • Vehicles or two-wheeled electric scooters.
  • Skateboards, bicycles or skates.
  • Tents or large umbrellas.
  • Pets.
  • Drones.
  • Fireworks.

 

The following items are permitted:

  • Baby food (formula and small snacks).
  • Medically required foods for special dietary needs (See menus for information on available foods).
  • Service animals.

Cameras (photography) and Cell Phones

Cameras and cell phones are considered loose articles and are not permitted while riding an attraction.  Read more about our Ride Lite Policy.  Please respect other guests while enjoying your day at the park and only include your party in your photos or videos.  Those expecting to use footage for public use such as news or documentaries must make arrangements in advance with our Marketing Department at 502-813-8200.

Throughout the season, we routinely have camera crews and staff photographers shooting video and photos of the park, rides, attractions and guests.  These video clips and photos may be used in future advertising and public relation campaigns promoting Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay.

If you do not want to be photographed or to appear in our television commercials, or do not wish to be otherwise recorded, please leave the area during videotaping or photography.  By remaining in the area, you grant consent to Kentucky Kingdom, LLLP to record, videotape and photograph your likeness (photo), voice and statements, and use them without compensation, credit or other consideration.

Donations

Kentucky Kingdom is committed to giving back to the community. In particular, we strongly support organizations that focus on initiatives to promote educational opportunities for young people and families in Kentucky.

Nonprofit organizations interested in receiving a donation of Kentucky Kingdom admission tickets to benefit their cause should submit a letter (on the organization’s official letterhead) explaining their request and including all pertinent information (contact name, address, telephone number, e-mail, and documentation of 501(c)(3) status). In the case of requests connected with fundraising events being held to benefit the organization, please include the date, time, and location of the event. All requests for donation to a particular event must be received at least 30 days prior to the date of the event. Requests must be mailed to: Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay, Attention: Donations, P.O. Box 21639, Louisville, Kentucky, 40221.

Donations will be in the form of a limited number of general admission tickets to Kentucky Kingdom. Please be advised that, as a matter of policy, we do not donate Kentucky Kingdom season passes.

We receive a great number of donation requests and therefore cannot send you our regrets if your request is not approved. If your donation is approved, we will contact you.

For your request to be considered, you must meet the following criteria:

All organizations requesting donations must be officially registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits located in the state of Kentucky or in the Kentuckiana region and should be focused on endeavors related to education, young people, and/or families. We will consider requests from groups working on other social, educational, or economic issues if the goals of the organization align with our values.

The following types of requests will not be considered:

  • Individuals requesting personal donations for trips, sporting events, competitions, etc.
  • Requests for donations to individuals with financial needs related to their health or other issues.
  • Requests for donations to be used as employee incentives.
  • Requests for donations to political organizations.

Dress Code

For your safety, guests must wear clothing (shoes, shirts, and shorts/pants or cover-up) for admission and at all times while in Kentucky Kingdom.

Clothing or body art that is rude, vulgar or contains inflammatory language or graphics must be covered.

Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay is a family-friendly park and reserves the right to determine whether a guest’s attire or body art is appropriate.

 

Dress Code for Hurricane Bay

Guests are not permitted to swim in clothing that is not designed for swimming (i.e., street clothes). Swimming attire may not have exposed zippers, buckles, rivets, or metal of any kind.

Changing areas are provided inside Hurricane Bay See PARK MAP.

Children, not completely toilet trained, must wear a plastic cover-up over a diaper, or a swim diaper.

Hurricane Bay attractions involve dynamic water movement. Swimwear must be of modest design, remain securely in place, and should not impede the wearer’s ability to maneuver in the water. 

Inappropriate swimwear may include thongs, “cheekster” bikini bottoms, Brazilian bikini bottoms, string bikinis, and micro bikinis.

Food and Beverage 

Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay does not allow outside food or beverages to be brought into the park, with limited exceptions (e.g., infant formula, baby food, etc.). We offer a wide variety of restaurants and snack options throughout the park (click here to view menus). You may also leave the park to eat – simply have your hand stamped before exiting so you may return the same day.

Kentucky Kingdom’s season pass provides great value for our guests by offering unlimited admission to both Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay, 20% off all food and merchandise purchases, and the low price of $1.00 for 21-ounce fountain drinks all season long. We also sell a 32-ounce souvenir bottle, which guests can fill with fountain drinks throughout the season for only $1.00 per refill. Vending machines, stocked with Coca-Cola products, are also conveniently located throughout the park.

Height and Weight Requirements

For the safety of all our guests, see the attraction policy signs posted at the entrance to each attraction for height and/or weight requirements for riders.  Height and weight requirements are established by the ride manufacturer and by state law and are strictly enforced. 

Lifeguards

Hurricane Bay lifeguards are certified by Ellis & Associates International Aquatic Safety & Risk Management and must comply with Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and Kentucky State Public Swimming and Bather Facilities regulations.

Lifeguards are continually evaluated and trained to ensure rescue readiness. These programs may be conducted during park operating hours and may include the use of realistic manikins or actual people to simulate guests in distress.

Nursing Moms

Nursing moms are welcome to breastfeed in any public area at Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay.  We also offer air-conditioned accommodations, with privacy bays and electrical outlets for pumps, at each of our three (3) Health Services (first aid) buildings.  See park map.

Park Closing

  • All attractions stop operation at park closing. 
  • To ensure all guests waiting in line have the opportunity to enjoy the attraction, queue lines for some attractions may be closed before park closing time.
  • Lines for popular attractions may be lengthy.  Do not wait until the end of operating hours to get in line for your favorite attraction.
  • To maximize your enjoyment of Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay, please be aware of daily operating hours.
  • Park entry, including reentry, is not allowed during the last operating hour each day.

Proper Behavior

All guests are required to dress, behave and conduct themselves in a manner that promotes a family-friendly environment.

Kentucky Kingdom will not tolerate any disruptive behavior, including:

  • Failure to follow ride operator or lifeguard instructions.
  • Failure to follow posted ride rules.
  • Interference with normal park operations.
  • Causing inconvenience or annoyance to fellow guests.
  • Reselling admission tickets.
  • Using a season pass that does not belong to you.
  • Misuse or transfer of exit hand stamp.
  • Smoking in a non-designated area.
  • Use of coarse or vulgar language.

Please note: Disruptive behavior as determined by Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay staff may result in ejection from the park and/or revocation of a season pass without refund.

Quiet Room

Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay offers a sensory soothing space where anyone with Autism Spectrum Disorder can take a break with a guardian. This quiet room is located inside the Health Services building near the Bella Musica Carousel. See park map.

Restricted Areas

For your safety and the safety of our team members, guests may NEVER enter a restricted area.  This includes fenced-in areas around attractions, maintenance rooms and team member only areas.  Only use designated walkways and pathways while visiting the park.  

Report any personal item(s) lost in a restricted area to Guest Services at the front entrance.   

Ride Closures

  • For the safety of our guests, attractions may be closed temporarily or for the day when necessary.    
  • Our website and front entrance ticket booths will post any attractions closed for the day.
  • If an attraction is closed during operating hours, staff will update guests waiting in line of the anticipated reopening time. 

Ride Photos

Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay offers ride photos for purchase on Thunder Run and Storm Chaser.  Items available include 5 x 7 photo with logoed folder and keychains.  Season pass holders receive a 20% discount on ride photo purchases.  Obscene gestures will not be tolerated and may result in ejection from the park without a refund or revocation of season pass.

Rider Switch

To accommodate all guests, our rider switch policy allows all riders who meet the rider requirements to enjoy an attraction, even if a member of the party does not meet rider requirements or does not want to ride. One supervising companion may wait with the non-rider(s) in the entrance queue while the rest of the party rides. The waiting supervising companion may then load the ride as the non-rider(s) exits with the returning supervising companion.

Ride Accessibility

Riders should look for the wheelchair and transfer symbols on the attraction sign at each ride to determine if the attraction is suitable for you.

The wheelchair symbol (symbol) identifies attractions a guest may ride while remaining in a wheelchair.  The transfer symbol (symbol) identifies attractions a guest may ride if able to transfer from a wheelchair to the ride vehicle or attraction alone or with assistance from a member of his/her party.  Guests must be able to complete the loading and unloading process, which may involve standing, step(s) up or down, or a slight incline.  All riders must meet all rider requirements and be able to maintain rider posture for the duration of the ride. Service Animals

Certified service animals accompanying designated owners are welcome at Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay.  Service animals are not permitted on rides and must remain with a non-riding member of the party while the owner is on a ride.  No other animals are permitted.

Smoke Free

Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay strives to accommodate all our guests without disturbing the enjoyment of others. Designated smoking areas can be found on our PARK MAP. Smoking (including the use of electronic cigarettes) is permitted only in designated areas and never in restrooms, dining areas, amphitheaters, or anywhere else in the park.

Strollers, Wheelchairs, and Electric Convenience Vehicles (ECVs)

Guests may bring their own strollers, wheelchairs, and ECVs into Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay.  We also offer rentals on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Fees per day are $12.00 for a single stroller; $15.00 for a double stroller; $10.00 for a wheelchair; and $38.00 for an ECV (tax not included).  Stroller rentals are for children only with a weight limit of 60 pounds for a single stroller and 100 pounds for a double stroller.  Wheelchairs have a weight limit of 250 pounds and the ECV weight limit is 450 pounds.  Reservations are not accepted for strollers, wheelchairs or ECVs and discounts do not apply.  Wheelchairs provided by Health Services are reserved for those who require medical attention.

Parking

Enter Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC) parking area via gate 2 or 4 for easiest access to Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay (see KEC map for directions.  KEC charges a parking fee of $8.00 per car and $20.00 per bus. Season pass holders receive free parking on park operating days by showing season pass to parking attendant.

KEC provides a thirty (30) minute window for anyone dropping off guests at Kentucky Kingdom.  Request a receipt when paying the parking fee and present this receipt to the KEC parking attendant at gate 4 on Crittenden Drive (within 30 minutes) to obtain parking fee refund. 

Note:  Kentucky Expo Center sets all parking policies and may change them at any time.  Visit KEC website http://www.kyfairexpo.org/ for more details and updates.

Weather

To ensure the safety of our guests, some rides and attractions may be closed during inclement weather. We do not offer rain checks or refunds under these circumstances.

If persistent weather conditions close the majority of our rides for an extended period, we may offer Sunshine Passes at Guest Services (located at the front entrance) for guests who entered the park with an admission ticket.  Season pass holders do not receive Sunshine Passes.
