Louisville, Kentucky, March 27, 2018: Bennett Knox, Parks Administrator at the Jefferson Memorial Forest, has announced that Kentucky Kingdom is finalizing a contract with the Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation Department to operate the zipline attraction at the 6,600-acre Forest. This unique attraction, to be called “Zipline Kingdom – An Adventure at Jefferson Memorial Forest” offers a unique three-hour, highly interactive experience. Besides allowing riders to enjoy the view of the beautiful wooded terrain from 30 feet up, the zipline also connects riders with 39 different activities, among them Tarzan swings, a zig-zag suspended bridge, rope ladders, a log swing, a plank crossing, a half trapeze, a net tunnel, and a “flying carpet.”
Ed Hart, President and CEO of Kentucky Kingdom, remarked: “We are very proud to have been given this opportunity by Louisville Metro. This is the first time we’ve extended our footprint of operations outside of the park proper, but the Jefferson Memorial Forest is only a 15-minute drive from Kentucky Kingdom, which makes it very convenient. Our rides department will manage and supervise the zipline attraction and we will operate it with the same high standards and best practices that Kentucky Kingdom is known for.”
The attraction was previously operated by GoApe! and hosted approximately 12,000 visitors over the past two years. After GoApe! declined to renew its contract with the Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation Department, Kentucky Kingdom offered to purchase the attraction and assume the operating agreement with the Parks Department.
Kentucky Kingdom’s Director of Operations, Lesly Birkner, said, “Zipline Kingdom is a really fun attraction and it’s especially great for groups. We intend to popularize not just the attraction itself, but also the Jefferson Memorial Forest, by including both in our advertising campaign. We hope this will help draw lots of visitors to the Forest and that they’ll also enjoy Zipline Kingdom as part of that experience.”
“Zipline Kingdom – An Adventure at Jefferson Memorial Forest” will open to the public daily on Friday, June 1, 2018. Tentative operating hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily through mid-August and the attraction is planned to operate on weekends through the month of November. The price for the three-hour adventure is $70.00, but the first visit is free for Kentucky Kingdom season pass holders. Kentucky Kingdom will begin taking online reservations for the attraction at ziplinekingdom.com beginning May 15, 2018.
